Automatic transfer switch is used to switch an electric load back and forth between a primary source-a utility, and a secondary source- a generator. Transferring power from the primary source to the secondary source is necessary when the incoming power quality deviates from set limits. The transfer switch is also used to switch the source back to utility.
Upon recognizing any one of a number of faults with the utility power, the embedded controller is configured to switch in the secondary source of power, the generator, via the transfer switches. In about five to ten seconds, when the generator is producing full power, the ATS transfers the connection of the load from the utility to the generator, restoring electricity to the load. The transfer switch continues to monitor utility power, switching the load connection from the generator back to the utility when it is restored. Once the generator is disconnected, it goes through a cool-down routine and then automatically shut down. ATS current is available from 20 to 3200Amp.
